Reflexology is a 5000-year old system first used in China that is well-suited to modern life.  It’s similar to acupuncture in that it features manipulation of pressure points, but it does not require the use of needles.  Instead, the foot is viewed as a “mini-map” of the body, with every section of the foot corresponding to an organ or a gland, which can be manipulated by hand.

Cara became a Certified, Registered  Reflexologist with the  Reflexology Association of Canada (RAC)  in 2007. Cara has been told by clients she has "healing hands" and has a way of making you feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease. Cara says most of her clients fall asleep during the treatment and clients also claim to feel so refreshed after a treatment like they are walking on air. With eight years experience Cara is very good at understanding and evaluating your individual needs. She  has she has worked with so many different client needs including seniors, cancer patients, pregnant women, diabetics, runners, migraine sufferers, digestive issues and children. Cara  says  her clients report that a one-hour session can be as relaxing as a one week vacation, and a lot less expensive.  Cara especially likes working with skeptics, “because they always walk out believers.”

Donna Carmichael RCRT  (email  donna@whitbymassage.com  / 905.430.2183 ext. 107)

Registered Reflexologist, Reiki Master, Mindfulness Meditation Specialist

Donna is a certified Registered Canadian Reflexology Foot Therapist and member of the Reflexology Association of Canada. Reflex points on the foot correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. During a Reflexology treatment,by using thumb, finger and hand pressure on the whole foot, these reflexes are stimulated.  Reflexology relieves tension and stress, improves circulation and helps to normalize the body naturally, without adverse side effects.  A treatment brings the body into a state of complete rest, repair and relaxation. Most people rest comfortably or fall asleep during a treatment and feel refreshed and energized afterwards. Make your whole body happy with a reflexology treatment!

What can this therapy treatment do for me?

A trained Reflexologist knows that the body's waste products can form deposits on nerve endings, which in turn can block the natural flow of energy to other parts of the body. For example, our feet alone have over seven thousand nerve endings. The manifestation of deposit blockage can lead to pain or functional limitations elsewhere such as the neck or back. The body's natural healing ability is impaired.

Reflexology practioners will provide knowledgeable gentle stimulation of nerve endings to increase blood circulation, which leads to elimination of toxins via the lymphatic circulation path. Thus, the body is encouraged to heal itself naturally.

Reduction of stress is achieved due to the deep, satisfying relaxation, which usually occurs during treatment. Our emotions are tied to our body feelings and therefore a state of physical relaxation can produce significant reduction of mental stress.

On your first visit you and your practitioner will discuss what you wish to get out of your session. For example, you may discuss relevant information regarding injuries, stress, sleep disorder, illness or disease. Problem areas are noted and treatment begins.

Your treatment is typically  an hour or longer depending on what you and the practitioner agree upon. Continued dialogue after the first treatment will give your practitioner important information on how your body is responding. The goal is to provide safe and effective treatment, which encourages your body to harmonize imbalances and restore the natural healing paths your body requires.
